Ty Simpson took the field as the starting quarterback for the Rams in their final preseason game, while Stetson Bennett was absent. After the game, head coach Sean McVay noted that these decisions do not determine who will back up starting quarterback Matthew Stafford during the regular season.
McVay mentioned that starting Simpson was intended to give him crucial experience as he enters his rookie year. He stated that the team is not prepared to name either Simpson or Bennett as the primary backup just yet.
"We have the reigning MVP of the league, and we also have two players we are confident in," McVay said, indicating he prefers to wait before making a definitive choice on the backup position.
With the Rams scheduled to face the 49ers in Australia in two weeks, a decision on the backup quarterback is expected soon.
