Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has not yet determined who will serve as the backup quarterback as the regular season approaches. The decision is between Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett, according to Benjamin Royer of The Orange County Register.
In a recent preseason match against New Orleans, Simpson completed eight of twelve passes for 73 yards and made three rushing attempts for ten yards. Meanwhile, Bennett had a notable performance, completing 19 passes out of 31 attempts for 181 yards, along with two rushing touchdowns.
McVay is taking a careful approach to the decision, mentioning that he is evaluating the situation day by day. On Monday, Bennett received a greater number of second-team practice reps compared to Simpson, which could suggest a potential edge for Bennett in the competition.
McVay confirmed that Simpson will play in the upcoming preseason finale against the Chargers, but he did not specify if Bennett would also participate, indicating that the team is still assessing their options for the backup quarterback role as the season nears.
