The Los Angeles Rams have parted ways with cornerback Zech McPhearson after finalizing an injury settlement on September 5. This decision comes just weeks before the start of the 2026 regular season.

McPhearson, who was signed by the Rams on August 9, took part in two preseason games. However, he sustained an undisclosed injury, resulting in his placement on injured reserve on August 24, which hindered his chances of making the final roster.

Before his time with the Rams, McPhearson was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in 33 regular-season games during his first two seasons, including all 17 games in 2022, where he recorded one sack and 14 combined tackles.

The Rams were drawn to his special teams experience, particularly given their previous season's challenges in that area.

McPhearson's career has been plagued by injuries, including a torn Achilles in August 2023 that kept him out for an entire season. After being waived by the Eagles in 2024, he spent time on the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars before being released due to another injury in August 2025.

With the injury settlement, McPhearson now has the chance to explore other opportunities in the NFL as he continues his recovery.
