Andrew Knizner's bat carried San Francisco's half of a 2-0 lead at Fenway Park. The ninth inning erased it.

ESPN's box score has Knizner, hitting ninth, at four at-bats with one run, three hits, one RBI, one home run, zero walks, and zero strikeouts. The Associated Press account carried by ABC News noted that Knizner also homered for the Giants in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

ESPN's scoring play puts the blast in the third inning: Knizner homered to left-center (394 feet) off Patrick Sandoval with nobody out for a 2-0 lead — his first home run of 2026 on the box.

Two solo shots, then nothing with runners on

Willy Adames had already gone deep in the first, a 403-foot solo homer for his 21st of the season and 51st RBI, per ESPN. Together the two solo shots were San Francisco's only runs. The Giants finished with eight hits, went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and left 11 on base, ESPN's team line shows.

The Boston Globe wrote that Knizner had played with Triple-A Worcester about six weeks before opting out of that contract this month, and that the third-inning drive also went to left-center. Blade Tidwell kept Boston quiet for 5 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, the AP reported, so the early homers looked like enough until the late innings.

Boston's three-run ninth against Sam Hentges tied and then passed San Francisco. Eli White singled home a run, Nick Sogard doubled in another, and Wilyer Abreu's grounder produced the winning force at the plate after first baseman Bryce Eldridge's diving stop, the AP wrote. Umpire James Hoye ruled White safe; the Giants challenged and the call stood.

The Globe noted Knizner was the catcher on that force attempt and was deemed off the plate. ESPN's scoring board records the challenge upheld and the final at 3-2.

A different night from the same Fenway card

Drew Gilbert went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the same game, ESPN shows, and Rafael Devers was 0-for-4 with a walk while hearing boos in his second game back at Fenway, per the AP. Knizner's 3-for-4 with the early homer sits apart from those lines: he supplied half of San Francisco's runs and three of its eight hits before the walk-off.

San Francisco fell to 52-77; Boston rose to 70-59. Wyatt Olds (1-0) took the win and Hentges (1-6) the loss with his third blown save, ESPN lists. Knizner's first 2026 homer and three-hit night were the offensive marker in a game Boston finished after the review at home plate.

How the lead was built, then lost

Sandoval lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed both Giants home runs, ESPN shows. After Knizner's third-inning shot, San Francisco did not score again despite putting traffic on. Olds closed 1.1 scoreless innings for the win after Weissert and Morán each worked a scoreless frame, the Red Sox pitching lines list.

The AP placed the Giants' recent form in plain view: a 10th loss in 13 games. Knizner's line — three hits, the early homer, no strikeouts — did not change that ledger, but it did mark the only multi-hit performance among San Francisco's regulars in ESPN's batting table for the night.

Adames finished 2-for-4 with the first-inning homer; everyone else in the order finished with at most one hit.

CBS Sports' gametracker recap and the ESPN box agree on the final and on Knizner's three-hit, one-homer night. The walk-off review ended a game in which San Francisco's catcher had already supplied the second run.
