Trailing Offense Struggles Against Miami's Barrage

The Athletics faced a daunting challenge on Saturday at Sutter Health Park, ultimately falling 12-5 to the Miami Marlins. Despite a strong start by pitcher Jack Perkins, who struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings, the home team could not contain Miami’s powerful lineup. Perkins took the loss, improving his record to 2-4, while the Athletics' bullpen struggled to contain the damage after the early innings.

Stowers Leads Marlins Offensive Charge

Miami’s success was driven largely by Stowers, who recorded three hits, including two home runs. Stowers opened the scoring in the first inning with a walk that allowed Hicks to score. Later in the same inning, Stowers crossed the plate on a passed ball by Athletics catcher Langeliers. The Marlins continued their assault in the bottom of the first, with Hernández launching a 414-foot home run to center field that brought in two more runs, followed by Marsee’s 381-foot homer to right.

Stowers added to his tally in the sixth inning with a 368-foot home run to right field. His second home run of the game came in the eighth inning, a 388-foot shot to right center that plated Hicks, extending Miami’s lead. The Marlins’ offense remained active throughout the game, with Caissie adding a 390-foot home run to left in the ninth inning that scored Ruiz, capping the scoring at 12-5.

Athletics Find Some Success in Later Innings

The Athletics managed to score in the third and fourth innings. Kurtz homered to center field in the third, a 457-foot shot that brought Williams home, giving the home team a brief moment of hope. However, their momentum was short-lived. In the fourth inning, McNeil doubled to center field, driving in three runs: Bolte, Kuroda-Grauer, and Cortes. This five-run inning narrowed the gap, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.

Pitching and Final Records

Miami’s pitching staff held the Athletics to just five runs over the course of the game. Tyler Phillips started for Miami, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in 3.1 innings. He was supported by relievers Michael Petersen, Tyler Zuber, Calvin Faucher, Lake Bachar, and William Kempner, who combined for seven scoreless innings. Bachar earned the win, improving his record to 1-0.

For the Athletics, Jose Suarez, Justin Sterner, Mark Leiter Jr., and Mason Barnett pitched in relief. Leiter recorded two strikeouts in his inning, while Barnett faced three hits and allowed four earned runs over two innings. The loss dropped the Athletics to 41-47, while the Marlins improved to 47-42. The game drew an attendance of 10,312 to Sutter Health Park.
