Trailing Efforts
The Los Angeles Angels attempted to hold off a late surge from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, but their bullpen could not contain the offense in the middle innings. Despite a solid start from Jose Soriano, the Angels ultimately fell 8-3 at T-Mobile Park. Soriano pitched five innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out nine batters. He departed with the loss, dropping his record to 8-5. Chase Silseth and Brent Suter also took damage to their records, combining to give up four earned runs in two innings of work. Ryan Zeferjahn closed out the game for Los Angeles, pitching one scoreless inning with a strikeout.
Sixth-Inning Collapse
The game remained tight until the sixth inning, when Seattle erupted for five runs. The scoring began when Arozarena singled to left, driving in Rodríguez. Young followed with a hit to right, scoring Naylor. A series of wild pitches by Silseth allowed Arozarena to score from third, and later, We. Wilson singled to right to bring in both Raleigh and Young, extending the lead. This pivotal frame shifted the momentum entirely in Seattle's favor, putting the Angels in a deep hole they could not overcome.
