A Late Surge Changes the Game
The San Diego Padres held a commanding lead entering the seventh inning, but a single swing shifted the entire momentum of the contest. Teoscar Hernández launched a home run to center field, measuring 419 feet, which cleared the bases and delivered four runs to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The blast turned a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead, effectively deciding the outcome of the matchup.
Before Hernández’s decisive hit, the Padres had controlled the early and middle innings. They took the lead in the first inning when Sheets singled to right field, allowing Tatis Jr. to score while Cronenworth advanced to third. San Diego extended their advantage in the fourth inning when Merrill homered to center, a 423-foot shot that pushed the score to 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
The Padres added another run in the sixth inning. Bogaerts doubled to right field, driving in Merrill to make it 3-0. At that point, the Padres’ pitching staff had successfully contained the Dodgers’ offense, holding them to just three earned runs despite giving up seven hits.
Pitching Performances Define the Early Contest
San Diego’s starting pitcher, Michael King, worked six innings, striking out five batters while allowing three earned runs on three hits. He was followed by Adrian Morejon, who pitched one inning and gave up one earned run on two hits with two walks. Bradgley Rodriguez closed out the Padres’ pitching effort with a scoreless inning, issuing one walk.
