El Camino Health has submitted an application to construct a new medical facility in Los Gatos, a community located approximately 4 miles southeast of Saratoga. The healthcare organization released architectural renderings of the proposed project, which it describes as a state-of-the-art hospital with a price tag of $1 billion. If the plan receives approval, the provider aims to have the facility open and operational within six years.
The proposed structure would significantly expand current capacity, more than doubling the size of the existing hospital. According to the details provided by El Camino Health, the new building would include 122 single-patient rooms and 12 operating rooms. The facility is also designed to house modernized specialty clinics to serve the local population.
In other local developments, Shannon O’Connor, a Los Gatos resident, was sentenced to more than 35 years in prison. O’Connor had been convicted in March on 48 felony charges related to hosting alcohol-fueled parties for underage teenagers. The sentencing followed several days of emotional testimony from victims, including one who stated she became suicidal due to the trauma. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen issued a statement regarding the sentence on Thursday.
During the sentencing hearing, victims and their families addressed O’Connor directly, with some asking the judge to impose the maximum term. O’Connor spoke to the court before the judge issued the final sentence. It remains unclear whether she will address the court again before her imprisonment begins.
Additionally, a water main break occurred early Wednesday in Los Gatos, causing flooding and disrupting service to 21 homes. Crews responded to the incident to address the infrastructure failure.
