City Manager Jennifer Maguire stated in a release that the awardees demonstrate how local initiatives create tangible benefits, including improved air quality and enhanced energy resilience. The annual awards, presented by the city, recognize those advancing innovative solutions, engaging communities, and helping the city meet its climate objectives.
John Brazil received the Climate Smart Champion of the Year title for his long-term leadership in expanding the city’s bikeway network and improving safety for cyclists. Jordan Moldow, another cycling advocate, was named the Climate Smart Mobility Champion.
Made Simple Heating & Air Inc. earned the Climate Smart Energy Champion award for assisting homeowners in transitioning to cleaner, more efficient housing through high-efficiency heat pump installations and guidance on available rebates and incentives.
60 SOMA Fee Owner CA, LLC was designated the Climate Smart Water Conservation Champion after implementing building upgrades that lowered water consumption by 25% compared to the local average. Kanika Rawat was named the Climate Smart Youth Champion for creating a video competition that allows students to express their views, interact with local government, and encourage climate action within the community.
Climate Resilient Communities received the Climate Smart Equity Champion award for empowering residents in climate-vulnerable neighborhoods to lead local solutions. The organization strengthened community resilience through resident-driven projects, partnerships, and preparedness efforts.
