Giants' Early Struggles Define Loss

The San Francisco Giants found themselves in a deep hole early on Saturday at Coors Field, unable to contain the Colorado Rockies' explosive offense. Despite a brief moment of momentum in the third inning, the Giants were ultimately overwhelmed by a 15-3 defeat that left their pitching staff struggling to contain the home team's power.

San Francisco's starting pitcher Logan Webb took the loss, falling to 5-6 on the season. He pitched three innings but allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits. Relief pitchers Matt Gage, Ryan Walker, and JT Brubaker were unable to stabilize the defense, combining to give up the remaining runs. Gage worked 1.1 innings and surrendered six earned runs on four hits. Walker pitched 2.2 innings, allowing one earned run, while Brubaker finished the game with one inning pitched and one earned run allowed.

McCarthy Dominates with Two Homers

Jake McCarthy was the standout performer for Colorado, delivering a career-defining offensive display. He hit two home runs and drove in six runs, providing the spark that kept the Giants' defense off balance throughout the afternoon.

McCarthy opened the scoring in the first inning with a 440-foot home run to right center. He added a second home run in the fifth inning, a 427-foot shot to right center that extended the Rockies' lead significantly. His performance included driving in multiple runners in key innings, including a four-run fifth inning that effectively sealed the game.

Rockies' Offensive Surge Continues

Colorado's offense was relentless, scoring 15 runs across the game. In the first inning, the Rockies built an early 3-0 lead. Jake McCarthy's home run was followed by a run scored on a walk by Carrigg and another on a groundout by Freeman. The second inning saw Tovar hit a two-run home run to right center, pushing the score to 5-0.

San Francisco managed to score in the third inning when Arraez scored on a Schmitt single, making it 5-1. However, the Rockies immediately responded with three more runs in the same inning, including a run scored by Julien on a fielder's choice and another on McCarthy's single. The fourth inning saw Lee score on an Eldridge single, bringing the score to 7-2.

The fifth inning proved decisive for Colorado. McCarthy's second home run drove in three runs, making it 11-2. Carrigg then tripled to center, scoring two more runs, and Freeman singled to add another, pushing the score to 14-2. Devers hit a home run in the sixth inning to make it 14-3. Tovar added an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, finalizing the 15-3 score.

Final Notes

Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner earned the win, improving to 3-2. He pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with nine strikeouts. Gabriel Hughes secured the save with three scoreless innings of relief. The game drew 47,655 fans to Coors Field. The Rockies improved to 36-53, while the Giants fell to 36-51.
