Late Inning Surge
The San Francisco Giants’ pitching staff, led by Logan Webb’s eight-inning outing, held firm for most of Sunday’s contest but ultimately fell short when the Detroit Tigers manufactured two crucial runs in the bottom of the tenth inning. The final score stood at 3-1, leaving the Giants with their 69th loss of the season.
Webb was largely effective, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out two batters over eight innings. However, the deficit arrived in the sixth inning when Torres grounded into a double play that allowed McKinstry to score from third base, making it 1-0.
The Giants tied the game in the seventh inning when Gilbert reached on an infield single to third, driving in Basabe to make the score 1-1.
Decisive Moments
The game remained deadlocked until the tenth inning. Detroit broke the tie when Lee singled to right field, allowing Greene to cross the plate and give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The Tigers extended their advantage immediately after.
Clark grounded into a fielder’s choice to shortstop, which allowed Lee to score from second base while Torkelson was thrown out at second. This play pushed the final margin to 3-1.
