The Chargers have confirmed that center Tyler Biadasz will miss the entire season after being placed on injured reserve. The injury occurred during joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers when a defensive lineman collided with his leg, leading to him being carted off the field.
Biadasz initially sought multiple medical opinions in hopes of a return this season. However, following the Chargers' preseason game against the 49ers, head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that Biadasz had suffered an ACL injury, and the outlook was not favorable.
Having signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chargers this offseason, Biadasz was anticipated to be a vital part of the team under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. His skills in blocking on the move were expected to enhance the offensive line compared to previous center Bradley Bozeman.
In response to Biadasz's injury, rookie Jake Slaughter will step in as the new center. Slaughter, who was drafted in the second round in April, was originally slated to compete for the starting left guard spot but will now transition to center. He has demonstrated proficiency at the position during training camp and preseason, where he played exclusively in college at Florida.
This injury adds to the Chargers' challenges, reminiscent of last year's situation when starting left tackle Rashawn Slater was also lost to a season-ending injury during training camp.
