The Los Angeles Rams announced significant roster changes as they prepare for their preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team signed edge rusher Devean Deal and cornerback Steven Gilmore, while placing cornerback Zech McPhearson and edge rusher Keir Thomas on injured reserve.
Devean Deal, who went undrafted after his time at TCU, previously had a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks before being released in May. Throughout his college career, he played in 58 games, achieving 35 starts, and accumulated 182 tackles, 14 sacks, and five forced fumbles. He was recognized as the defensive MVP in the 2024 New Mexico Bowl.
Although it is uncertain if Deal or Gilmore will secure a position on the final roster or practice squad, they will have a chance to demonstrate their abilities in the upcoming game. With Keir Thomas now on injured reserve, Wesley Bailey may have an increased opportunity to make the team. Additionally, the Rams waived linebacker Daniel Rickert due to an injury designation.
Rickert had been signed shortly before the preseason began. These roster moves may not drastically influence the final lineup but provide a platform for the players to make their case before final cuts are made.
