Late Rally Falls Short
The Los Angeles Angels mounted a spirited comeback attempt on Saturday, but a seven-run seventh inning proved insufficient to overcome an early deficit against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. The final tally stood at 5-3 in favor of the home team, leaving the Angels (38-58) with their 58th loss of the season.
Minnesota took control early, building a 3-0 lead through the second inning. Royce Lewis provided the initial spark with a 419-foot home run to left-center field that drove in two runs. Keaschall added to the advantage later in the frame with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Caratini.
The Angels responded in the third inning when Soler doubled to left, allowing Neto and Trout to cross the plate and cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Minnesota quickly regained the lead and extended it significantly in the seventh.
Seventh Inning Surge
The Twins broke the game open with a barrage of offense. Schanuel singled to left to score Neto, making it 3-3. Caratini then doubled to left, bringing Lewis home for a 4-3 lead. Roden followed with a single to right field, scoring Caratini and pushing the margin to 5-3.
Despite the early deficit, Los Angeles kept pushing. Ryan Johnson started for the Angels, pitching five innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits and three walks, striking out one batter. Mitch Farris took the mound for the next two innings, surrendering two more earned runs on six hits before being charged with the loss, dropping his record to 0-1.
