Logan Webb walked off the Oracle Park mound with a quality start and a four-run lead. He did not factor in the decision.
CBS Sports reported that Webb allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings, striking out six, in Wednesday's 10-9 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. ESPN's box matches that line and lists his ERA at 3.72.
It was his 16th quality start of the season, CBS Sports wrote, on a night NBC Sports said Landen Roupp had originally been scheduled to start before the Giants swapped the two.
Webb left after six with San Francisco ahead 6-2. The bullpen later turned a 9-3 ninth-inning lead into a loss.
Two runs, one of them a homer
Dane Myers walked in the second, moved up on a bunt, and scored on Jose Trevino's single to right. Ke'Bryan Hayes then grounded into a double play. In the third, Hector Rodriguez homered to center, 403 feet on ESPN's scoring play, tying the game 2-2. Elly De La Cruz doubled; Webb retired Sal Stewart, JJ Bleday, and Eugenio Suarez with De La Cruz at third.
Rodriguez had reached in the first on a fielding error. Webb hit Bleday with a pitch later in that inning and struck out Suarez looking to end it. Myers stole second in the fourth. De La Cruz reached on a fielder's choice in the first and stole second, CBS Sports' play-by-play shows.
San Francisco scored twice in the fifth on Rafael Devers' 29th homer and twice more in the sixth. Webb retired the side in the fifth and allowed a Suarez single in the sixth before striking out Myers and Matt McLain.
CBS Sports wrote that Webb has quality starts in six of eight outings since the All-Star break.
The ninth, after he was gone
Jason Foley allowed a run in the seventh on Stewart's sacrifice fly, which gave Stewart 100 RBI, tied with Jim Greengrass (1953) for the Reds' rookie record, the AP said. Ryan Walker recorded the last two outs of that inning. Spencer Bivens worked a scoreless eighth, then opened the ninth.
