Arizona Overcomes Early Deficit

The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three-game series sweep with a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Sunday. The win improves Arizona’s record to 49-47, while the Dodgers fall to 61-36.

Arizona trailed 3-1 entering the fifth inning before mounting a decisive rally. The Diamondbacks’ offense generated crucial runs in the middle frames, overcoming an early deficit created by Los Angeles’ power display.

Dodgers Take Early Lead

Los Angeles jumped out to an early advantage in the first inning when Shohei Ohtani homered to center field, a 437-foot shot that gave the home team a 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers extended their lead in the third inning. With Ohtani on base, Dylan Edman singled to left field, driving in two runs. The play left Ohtani and Austin Pages scoring, with Edman advancing to second base. The score became 3-0 in favor of Los Angeles.

Diamondbacks Rally in Fifth

Arizona began chipping away at the lead in the fifth inning. Nolan Arenado doubled to center field, prompting Corbin Carroll to score and make the score 3-1. Arenado advanced to third base on the play.

In the same inning, Jake McCarthy hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Arenado to score from third. The Diamondbacks cut the deficit to 3-2. Tawa remained on third base after the play.

The tying run arrived in the sixth inning. Yairo Munoz grounded into a fielder’s choice to third base. Perdomo scored on a throwing error by Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy, tying the game at 3-3. Munoz reached third base safely on the error.

Vargas singled to right field in the sixth, scoring Munoz and giving Arizona its first lead, 4-3. Vargas was out stretching at second base, and Gurriel Jr. advanced to third.

Late Home Run Secures Sweep

The Diamondbacks added an insurance run in the ninth inning. Tawa homered to center field, a 414-foot shot that extended the lead to 5-3.

Arizona’s bullpen shut down the Dodgers’ offense for the final three innings. Ryan Thompson earned the win, pitching one scoreless inning with no hits or walks. Kevin Ginkel, Jonathan Loaisiga, Juan Morillo, and Taylor Clarke each pitched scoreless innings, combining for three strikeouts. Paul Sewald recorded the save, his 22nd of the season.

Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out seven. Edgardo Henriquez took the loss, pitching 0.2 innings and allowing one hit and one walk. Brock Stewart and Tanner Scott each pitched one scoreless inning for Los Angeles. Evan Phillips allowed one hit and one earned run in 1.0 inning of work.

The game drew an attendance of 47,967 at Dodger Stadium.
