The San Diego Padres rallied from behind to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in a Sunday contest at Petco Park. The win improves San Diego’s record to 48-48, while Toronto falls to 45-51. The game drew an attendance of 41,675 spectators.

Early Deficit and Balancing Act

Toronto opened the scoring in the first inning when Lukes homered to right field, measuring 376 feet. This gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead. San Diego answered in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 when Cronenworth singled to left field, driving in Machado. The Padres took their first lead in the same frame as Song walked and Sheets scored. San Diego extended their advantage to 3-1 when France scored on a balk, with Song moving to second and Cronenworth to third on the same play. However, Toronto tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning. Clement homered to left field (376 feet), and Giménez scored to tie the contest.

Clutch Hits in the Eighth

The game remained tied until the eighth inning when Toronto briefly regained the lead. Clase singled to center field, allowing Varsho to score and Kirk to advance to second. The Blue Jays held a 4-3 advantage until Machado singled to center field, scoring Bogaerts to tie the game at 4-4. The decisive play came moments later when France hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Bowen to score and giving San Diego a 5-4 lead.

Pitching Performance

San Diego secured the win with strong relief pitching. Adrian Morejon earned the victory, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing one earned run. Mason Miller closed the game with a perfect 1.0 inning, striking out one batter, and was credited with his 25th save. German Marquez started for the Padres, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits. Ron Marinaccio and Kyle Hart contributed scoreless innings.

Toronto’s starting pitcher Kevin Gausman worked 6.0 innings, striking out eight batters but allowing three earned runs. Tyler Rogers pitched a scoreless inning. Jeff Hoffman took the loss, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing two earned runs on three hits.
